Community Service Project Feb 1st

restore_h4h

On Wednesday, February 1st, 2017, we will NOT have our regular youth group gathering at the Soul Garage. INSTEAD, we have a very exciting opportunity to put our faith into action by serving the poor in our own local community through a vital service project at the new Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Rice Lake.

The Barron County ReStore has been relocated to the strip mall across from Gordy’s Market immediately next door to Pet Supplies Plus.  This is the same area that has Cabin Coffee, Little Caesars, and the Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse. The address is 2500B S. Main St., Rice Lake.  It is only 1 minute from the Soul Garage.

Parents, please plan to drop off your youth at the ReStore and pick them up directly from the ReStore as we will not be shuttling youth back and forth.  You may drop them off as early as 5:45pm if you have other children to get to Awana by 6:00pm.

Pizza and water bottles will be provided between 5:45-6:15pm at the ReStore location.  PLEASE plan to arrive as close to 6:00pm as possible to maximize the time we have to serve.

Here are a few details to be aware of:

  • ALL youth MUST have a waiver signed in order to volunteer.  Waivers are attached (one for minors and one for those 18 or older).  Click minor-form for minors.  Click adult-form for those 18 or older.
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to join their teens on this special night and serve together.
  • Community service hours can be gained through this project for school e-portfolio credit or other.
  • Work boots are preferred, but sneakers are acceptable as well. No flip-flops or sandals!
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting ruined or dirty – there is a chance they could get ripped or stained.
  • Bring work gloves if you have some.

Our first teaching series in the Soul Garage this fall is called The Lies We Believe and the Truth That Frees.  All 6th-12th grade youth are invited to come join us this Wednesday, September 28th as we explore common lies we tend to believe and allow Scripture to speak truth into our lives to combat the lies we may believe.

What lies do you have a tendency to believe?

For part 1 of this series, we are going to look at one of the first lies humanity ever bought into, which eroded Adam and Eve’s trust in their very Creator.

Come join us!  Bring a friend.  Bring your parents this week as well.  We are inviting all parents to come hang out with us for one night this fall to learn more about what we do at the Soul Garage and hear more about fundraising opportunities we are offering this year.

If you have not already turned in your Fall Fling forms and payment, the final payment and ALL forms are due this week, Wednesday, September 28th!

All youth (incoming 7th graders – 2016 graduates) are invited to join us at the Soul Garage for WEEK 2 of our Summer “Breakfast and Bible” on Wednesday, July 20th 9:00AM-11:00AM.  Bring your Bible.  Bring your belly.  Bring your best friends.

Last week we enjoyed pancakes with fruit and whipped cream.  We set off the smoke detectors frying bacon.  We started exploring Jonah 1 making a list of questions that included the following:

  1. What is the “word of the Lord”?
  2. Who is Jonah?
  3. When did he live?
  4. Why is it important that we know who his father is?
  5. Why is “LORD” in all capital letters?
  6. Why did he have to preach?
  7. Was this the first time God sent Jonah somewhere?
  8. What did Nineveh do that brought it’s sins up before the Lord?
  9. Why did Jonah run away?
  10. Why did he try heading toward Tarshish?
  11. Where is Tarshish?
  12. Did Nineveh have a bad reputation among all people or just with Jonah?
  13. Why was there a storm?
  14. Is there a parallel with the 3 days and nights Jonah spent in the fish and the time Jesus spent in the tomb?
  15. Why did God send a storm upon the sailors if Jonah was the one at fault?
  16. Did the sailors become God-followers?
  17. If the sailors are pantheists, how is it that they worship Jonah’s God?
  18. Why did they have to throw Jonah overboard?

Next week, we will have a little nerf war with our nerf bows and arrows after our study of Jonah 2

Help spread the word to your friends.
