If you have repented of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins and wash you clean through his shed blood, you are a new person. You have eternal life! You have died to your sinful nature and have been made alive to Christ.
Jesus instructs us in numerous places in the Scriptures to be baptized. We believe that baptism does not save a person from their sin, because we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Yet, baptism is an incredibly important ordinance of the Church symbolizing externally what has already taken place internally.
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'”
Romans 6:3-4 “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized pinto Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Maranatha Evangelical Free Church will be celebrating the new life God has given us in Christ through our annual all-church picnic and baptism service at Silver Lake near Cumberland on Sunday, August 21st following our morning worship services. If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and have not yet obeyed his command to be baptized, talk to Pastor Tony about signing up to be baptized on August 21st.
