Since we are having a great adventure with Wisconsin Johnson for Maranatha’s Vacation Bible School this week in the mornings, we are changing our Breakfast & Bible to a Brunch & Bible just for this week: Wednesday, July 27th. We will meet from noon-2:00pm.
All youth going into 7th grade through just graduated are invited. We will be looking into chapter 3 of Jonah.
Pulled pork sandwiches are on the menu for this week.
If you have repented of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins and wash you clean through his shed blood, you are a new person. You have eternal life! You have died to your sinful nature and have been made alive to Christ.
Jesus instructs us in numerous places in the Scriptures to be baptized. We believe that baptism does not save a person from their sin, because we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Yet, baptism is an incredibly important ordinance of the Church symbolizing externally what has already taken place internally.
Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.'”
Romans 6:3-4 “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized pinto Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Maranatha Evangelical Free Church will be celebrating the new life God has given us in Christ through our annual all-church picnic and baptism service at Silver Lake near Cumberland on Sunday, August 21st following our morning worship services. If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ and have not yet obeyed his command to be baptized, talk to Pastor Tony about signing up to be baptized on August 21st.
All youth (incoming 7th graders – 2016 graduates) are invited to join us at the Soul Garage for WEEK 2 of our Summer “Breakfast and Bible” on Wednesday, July 20th 9:00AM-11:00AM. Bring your Bible. Bring your belly. Bring your best friends.
Last week we enjoyed pancakes with fruit and whipped cream. We set off the smoke detectors frying bacon. We started exploring Jonah 1 making a list of questions that included the following:
What is the “word of the Lord”?
Who is Jonah?
When did he live?
Why is it important that we know who his father is?
Why is “LORD” in all capital letters?
Why did he have to preach?
Was this the first time God sent Jonah somewhere?
What did Nineveh do that brought it’s sins up before the Lord?
Why did Jonah run away?
Why did he try heading toward Tarshish?
Where is Tarshish?
Did Nineveh have a bad reputation among all people or just with Jonah?
Why was there a storm?
Is there a parallel with the 3 days and nights Jonah spent in the fish and the time Jesus spent in the tomb?
Why did God send a storm upon the sailors if Jonah was the one at fault?
Did the sailors become God-followers?
If the sailors are pantheists, how is it that they worship Jonah’s God?
Why did they have to throw Jonah overboard?
Next week, we will have a little nerf war with our nerf bows and arrows after our study of Jonah 2
All youth (incoming 7th graders – 2016 graduates) are invited to join us at the Soul Garage for Breakfast and Bible starting Wednesday, July 13th 9:00AM-11:00AM. Bring your Bible. Bring your belly. Bring your best friends.
We will eat pancakes and other yummy breakfast food starting at 9:00am in the Soul Garage and then we will start a study of the Book of Jonah. After Breakfast and Bible we will play some games.
